WCPA Shares 2017 Poetry Finalists

The eight finalists will represent higher learning and will perform their work at the Tenth Annual College Poetry Reading on Apr. 2.

From WCPA: The Worcester County Poetry Association (WCPA) is pleased to share the names of the eight (8) finalists from Worcester County colleges and universities who will perform their original poetry at our Tenth Annual College Poetry Contest Reading on Sunday, April 2, 2017. The event is being held in the Saxe Room at the main branch of the Worcester Public Library (3 Salem Square, Worcester, MA).

It starts at 2:00 p.m. and is expected to run for 2 hours.This year’s finalists represent institutions of higher learning from Fitchburg to Paxton to Worcester.

  • Maria Gurriere, of Anna Maria College and Dudley
  • MARheannon Swire, of Assumption College and Stoughton
  • MAFaith Chesbrough of Fitchburg State University and Leominster MARyan Kingsley, of Holy Cross and North Attleboro
  • MACarmellite Chamblin, of MCPHS University and Malden,
  • MAJulie de Oliveira, of Quinsigamond Community College and Worcester,
  • MAMorgan DeAngelis, of WPI and Mountain View,
  • CAIsaac Church, of Worcester State University and Java Center, NY

This year the contest is judged by are poets Jenith Charpentier (Worcester) and Michael Fisher (Paxton). Jim Cocola, a member of the WCPA Board, and an Associate Professor of Literature, Film, and Media at WPI, is the contest chair. He is assisted by Criag Blais, also a member of the WCPA Board, and an Assistant Professor of English at Anna Maria College.
