Worcester Preliminary Election: Here's What You Need To Know

The preliminary election will happen on September 2.

WORCESTER, MA — Here's everything you need to know ahead of Worcester's preliminary election.

Worcester's preliminary election is on Tuesday, September 2. Only two races will have a preliminary election to narrow candidate fields ahead of the municipal election: at-large City Council and School Committee District E.

How To Vote?

Residents must register to be eligible to vote in the preliminary election by Saturday, August 23. Residents have the option to register online, by mail or in person.

On the day of the election, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. There are polls all over the city. You can find a full list here.

Worcester residents do have the option to vote early in person or by mail, or by absentee ballot.

The early voting schedule, which can be found online, begins on Monday, August 25, and ends on Friday, August 29.

Eligible residents can also vote by absentee ballot, which must be requested in writing at least five business days before the election.

Who's On The Ballot?

There are 14 people vying for City Councilor at-large positions in Worcester. Five of them already hold the spot. Only 12 of the 14 will move forward to the general election.

  • Donna M. Colorio (Incumbent)
  • Edson Montero
  • Gary Rosen
  • Jermoh Kamara
  • Jessica R. Pepple
  • Joseph M. Petty (Incumbent) - also running for Mayor
  • Kate Toomey (Incumbent)
  • Khrystian E. King (Incumbent) - also running for Mayor
  • Morris A. Bergman (Incumbent)
  • Owura-Kwaku Sarkodieh
  • Satya B. Mitra

There are three people vying for the School Committee District E position in Worcester. Only two will move forward to the general election.

The candidates for School Committee District E are:

  • Kathleen L. Roy
  • Nelly Medina
  • Noelia M. Chafoya

The general election will take place on November 4.
