WORCESTER, MA — Worcester Academy alumna Aliyah Boston is now a part-owner of a professional sports team in Boston.

Boston’s new pro soccer team, Boston Legacy FC, announced that the Indiana Fever forward would join as an investor on Monday.

Boston, 23, made history at Worcester Academy, which retired her #00 jersey last year. During her time at the school, she won two Class AA NEPSAC championships and was named Gatorade Player of the Year three times.

She went on to play at South Carolina before being selected first overall in the 2023 WNBA draft by the Fever, where she has played in the WNBA All-Star game each year since. She’ll play in this year’s game on July 19 in Indianapolis.

Boston joins a team of Massachusetts stars who have also invested. That includes Needham native and Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman, actress Elizabeth Banks, and the wife of Boston Celtics’ president of basketball operations, Tracy Stevens, according to the New York Times.

“This city helped raise me, and the support I felt here shaped so much of who I am,” said Boston. “I couldn't be more excited to have the opportunity to invest into a franchise that's building something special for its players, for the city, and for women’s sports as a whole.”

Boston and her team, the Indiana Fever, will be in Boston on Tuesday to play the Connecticut Sun.

Tip-off is at 8 p.m. at TD Garden. You can watch it live on ESPN.
