Worcester EbLens Stores Closing As Chain Shutters: Report

The Connecticut-based EbLens sportswear chain has locations in Worcester along Park Avenue and Majory Taylor Boulevard.

WORCESTER, MA — The two EbLens sportswear stores in Worcester will close as the Connecticut-based chain prepares to go out of business, MassLive reported Friday.

EbLens, based in Torrington, Conn., operates stores in Worcester along Park Avenue and off Major Taylor Boulevard downtown.

The chain was founded in New Britain, Conn., in 1949, and has since grown to multiple stores across southern New England. The chain has stores in the Providence area, in Springfield, Hartford and in the Boston area. There are also locations in New York and New Jersey.

J.W. Childs Associates, a private equity firm "specializing in leveraged buyouts and recapitalizations," bought a majority stake in the company in 2017. At the time, the company had 44 locations.

EbLens was advertising 30 percent off sales on all merchandise at all locations, according to the company's Facebook page.
