Worcester Gets $420K To Provide Training, Jobs For 40 Underemployed Individuals

Participants will be placed in roles within Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants and as System Operators.

WORCESTER, MA — The City of Worcester's MassHire Central Region Workforce Board received hundreds of thousands of dollars from the state to train and place 40 unemployed adults.

Gov. Maura Healey announced on Tuesday that the state will grant $7.4 million in workforce development grant funding for 16 initiatives across the state. Worcester received a total of $423,185 in funding to place 40 unemployed and underemployed participants in roles within Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants and as System Operators.

The city will partner with Upper Blackstone Clean Water, Weston & Sampson, Town of Grafton, Town of Uxbridge and the MA Water Environment Association.

“Workforce Success Grants give residents the opportunity to gain new skills and launch careers in high-demand fields,” said Gov. Healey. “These programs help people earn good wages, build long-term career paths, and connect directly with employers who need their talents.”
