Worcester Launches Grant Program For Minority, Women-Owned Businesses

The businesses must be based in construction or construction-related sectors.

WORCESTER, MA — The city announced on Monday that it is launching a new grant program for Worcester-based businesses.

The M/WBE Construction Advancement Program will support minority and women-owned businesses in Worcester that are based in construction or construction-related sectors. Each business can receive anywhere from $10,000 to $25,000 in grant funding.

Here's a list of criteria businesses must meet to be eligible for the program:

  • Must be certified by the Massachusetts Supplier Diversity Office (SDO) or recognized third-party certifying agencies;
  • Active for-profit located in Worcester;
  • Construction or construction-related sectors;
  • In good standing with the city and the state.

The program is funded by settlement funds from the Attorney General, according to a news release from the city.

Applications are currently being accepted on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted. You can find more information on how to apply here.

“This exciting program builds on the municipality’s existing efforts to support the certification of Minority and Women-Owned Businesses,” said City Manager Eric D. Batista. "Investing in these businesses will mean investing in our neighborhoods.”
