WORCESTER, MA — The municipal election is heating up in Worcester, and there are plenty of races with candidates eager to serve in elected office.
Three candidates are vying for two School Committee at-large seats. Adwoa A. Sakyi-Lamptey is challenging two incumbents, Sue Mailman and Maureen F. Binienda.

I am running for the 3rd term on the Worcester School Committee.
Why are you running for the School Committee at-large position?
I ran for the school committee before the district system was in place, and everyone was at-large and just stayed in that race.

Potential damage to our public school system by the current federal administration. I intend to stay fully informed about changes or new directives and to counteract as much as possible, in conjunction with like minded local, state and federal officials
What sets you apart from other candidates seeking this position?
I offer a business perspective and a highly engaged community perspective. This proves beneficial in connecting various stakeholders. I have strong governance and budget background.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
Quality Vocational and career expansion, continued investment in school buildings, building an educator workforce and fostering community partnership.
How does your experience prepare you for success in this position?
Years of community engagement in the workforce development areas/ social justice and social service areas.
What else would you like voters to know about yourself?
I take very seriously the opportunity to mentor/mentee a high school student each year on the school committee. I am proud to maintain relationships with each of these students.
