Worcester Preliminary Election Results: Here's Who Advanced To November

Only two races had a preliminary election on Tuesday.

WORCESTER, MA — After Worcester's preliminary election, the votes are in (unofficially) and it looks like the field has been narrowed down.

Only two races had a preliminary election on Tuesday, Sept. 2. The purpose was to narrow candidate fields for at-large City Councilor and School Committee District E ahead of the municipal election coming up on Nov. 4.

City Councilor at-large

The total number of ballots cast for at-large city councilor was 9,575.

Voters could select up to six candidates.

The unofficial winner of Tuesday's race for at-large City Councilor was incumbent Joseph M. Petty.

Here's the unofficial results of the top 12:

  1. Mayor Joseph M. Petty — 5,994 votes, 12.2%
  2. Kate Toomey — 5,144 votes, 10.4%
  3. Morris A. Bergman — 4,685 votes, 9.5%
  4. Gary Rosen — 4,646 votes, 9.4%
  5. Khrystian E. King — 4,590 votes, 9.3%
  6. Jermoh Kamara — 4,052 votes, 8.2%
  7. Donna M. Colorio — 3,882 votes, 7.9%
  8. Satya B. Mitra — 3,406 votes, 6.9%
  9. Cayden Davis — 3,200 votes, 6.5%
  10. Owura Kwaku-Sarkodieh — 2,729 votes, 5.5%
  11. Jessica R. Pepple — 2,342 votes, 4.8%
  12. Edson Montero — 1,625 votes, 3.3%

The two candidates who recieved the least amount of votes will not advance to the next round of voting.

Coming in No. 13 and No. 14 were — Charles E Luster with 1,396 votes(2.8%) and Bernard P. Iandoli with 1,340 votes (2.7%).

Petty, Colorio, Toomey, King and Bergman already hold at-large City Councilor spots in Worcester. Meanwhile, Thu Nguyen did not run for reelection.

School Comittee Member District E

The total number of ballots cast for School Comittee Member District E was 1,914. There were three candidates for voters to choose from.

The unofficial winner of Tuesday's face for School Comittee Member District E was Kathleen L. Roy.

Here's the unofficial results of the race:

  1. Kathleen L. Roy — 753 voter, 42%
  2. Nelly Medina — 597 votes, 33.5%
  3. Noelia M Chafoya — 432 votes, 24.2%
