Worcester Says No To Partnership Between Ice, Police Department: Report
Worcester City Council members voted on a resolution on Tuesday.
WORCESTER, MA — The Worcester Police Department will not partner with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to a new declaration from the City Council on Tuesday.
Worcester City Council members voted 8-2 on a resolution opposing any pursuit or consideration of a 287(g) agreement between ICE and the city, according to MassLive. The agreement would give local law enforcement the ability to perform limited immigration enforcement.
MassLive reported that Worcester Mayor Joseph Petty, Vice Chairman and Councilor-at-Large Khrystian King, Councilor-at-Large Kathleen Toomey, District 1 Councilor Jenny Pacillo, District 2 Councilor Candy Mero-Carlson, District 3 Councilor George Russell, District 4 Councilor Luis Ojeda and District 5 Councilor Etel Haxhiaj voted in favor of the resolution opposing the partnership; while Councilors-at-Large Morris Bergman and Donna Colorio voted against it.
