What To Know About Worcester's New WooBins

Here's why those colorful new bins are showing up all over the city.

WORCESTER, MA — To keep trash off the streets, the city launched an exciting way to throw out your trash. They're called WooBins.

Thirty WooBins, waste bins that separate trash and recycling, were installed throughout the city as part of a pilot program in April. They were placed in areas with high foot traffic and lots of litter concerns based on 311 data. That is the Green Island and Grafton Street areas.

The bins also showcase local art. In May, 50 original designs by Worcester-based artists and organizations were displayed on the new bins.

"We want to improve our litter issue in the city," said City Manager Eric Batista. "We want to provide a more sustainable solution to our trash in our communities."

By the end of the summer, 120 more bins are expected to be installed.
