1 Dead, Multiple Hurt After Car Hits Hay Wagon In Southeast MI: Sheriff

Officials said the hay wagon was moving without proper rear lights or a slow-moving vehicle emblem.

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, MI — A woman died and several others were injured in a crash involving a car and a hay wagon in southeastern Michigan over the weekend, according to sheriff's officials.

The crash happened at 7:30 p.m. Saturday on Smiths Creek Road west of Burns Road in Kimball Township, officials said.

Officials said a 79-year-old man from Kimball Township was driving a tractor that was pulling a trailer with five passengers when it was struck from behind by a Buick Regal.

Officials said the tractor was moving west on Smiths Creek and did not have proper rear lights or a slow-moving vehicle emblem when the crash happened.

An 85-year-old woman, who was a passenger on the hay wagon, was injured in the crash and taken to a nearby hospital where she died, officials said.

Other hay wagon passengers who were injured include a 77-year-old woman (serious injuries), a 67-year-old woman, a 62-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man - all minor injuries, officials said.

The driver of the hay wagon, a 79-year-old man from Kimball Township, was injured and listed in critical condition at a nearby hospital, officials said.

The driver of the Buick, a 44-year-old man, also from Kimball Township, was treated for minor injuries, officials said.

No other details were released.

Officials were still investigating the crash.
