10-Year-old Boy Hit, Killed By Car While Checking Mailbox In Southwest MI: Sheriff
Officials said the crash happened near a school bus stop.
PORTER TOWNSHIP, MI — A 10-year-old Michigan boy was hit and killed by a car Thursday near a school bus stop, according to sheriff's officials.
The crash happened at 8:12 a.m. Thursday near a bus stop in the 72000 block of 22nd Street in Porter Township, which is located in Van Buren County, according to sheriff's officials.
Officials said the boy was crossing the street to check the family's mailbox when he was hit by an SUV. The driver of the SUV, a 38-year-old woman, stopped and immediately called 911, officials said.

The boy was taken to a nearby hospital where he died, according to sheriff's officials.
Officials said that a Mattawan Consolidated Schools bus was pulling up to where the crash happened, though it had not yet stopped and it did not have its stop arm out.

No other details were released as police were still investigating the incident.
