3 Killed, 3 Hurt After Tree Falls On Car During Storms In MI: Reports

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI — Three people were killed and three others were hurt after a tree fell on a car Sunday when severe storms swept across the area, according to multiple news reports citing the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office.
The incident happened at 5:41 p.m. Sunday on East S Avenue, just west of South 47th Street in Climax Township, which is roughly 20 miles southeast of Kalamazoo, according to news reports.
Officials said the three people killed in the incident were family members, according to news reports.

Three more members of the same family were injured and taken to a nearby hospital, where one was listed in critical condition and two more in stable condition, according to news reports.
Officials were still investigating the incident and did not release any further information.

The incident comes as severe storms pummelled Michigan over the weekend, leaving more than 180,000 without power across the state.
The first wave of outages came after an ice storm slammed northern Michigan over the weekend, leading Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to activate the State Emergency Operations Center.
The next wave of outages came Sunday evening when severe storms, some with winds reaching 90 miles per hour crossed through lower Michigan. More than 20,000 were without power in the metro Detroit area Monday morning.
