350K Michigan Families Will Get Additional SNAP Benefits During Pandemic

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) on Monday announced about 350,000 Michigan families will continue to have access to additional food assistance benefits in May in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 350,000 households that are receiving additional benefits represent about 50% of Michigan households that previously received food assistance in April.

The remaining households already receive the maximum benefit, according to DHHS.

The maximum monthly allowable SNAP benefits based on household size is:

• One person – $194
• Two people – $355
• Three people – $509
• Four people – $646
• Five people – $768
• Six people – $921
• Seven people – $1,018
• Eight people – $1,164

“I am glad that MDHHS has been able to expand access to food assistance and make additional benefits available to families during this crisis,” said DHHS Director Robert Gordon. “Our staff will continue to do what they can to help Michiganders make it through difficult times unlike any we have seen in our lifetimes.”

Eligible clients will see the additional food assistance benefits on their Bridge card by May 31. Eligible households don’t need to re-apply to receive the additional benefits and can check their benefits balance here.
