6 Dead, Multiple Hurt In MI Crash: Sheriff

Officials said a pickup truck blew a stop sign and collided with a van.

GILFORD TOWNSHIP, MI — Six people were killed in a Tuesday crash in Tuscola County, according to the sheriff's office.

The crash happened at 4:44 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Vassar Road and Fairgrove Road in Gilford Township, according to the sheriff's office.

Officials said a pickup truck with three people inside was moving south on Vassar Road where it blew a stop sign at the intersection and collided with a van that was moving west with 10 people.

Multiple passengers were ejected from both vehicles, according to the sheriff's office.

Six people were killed in the crash and multiple others were injured, according to the sheriff's office.

Officials said the conditions of others who were injured were not immediately known.

Officials did not identify anyone involved in the crash.

"Please keep those affected by this tragedy in your thoughts," the sheriff's office said in a statement. "These incidents are preventable and people need to slow down and obey traffic laws."

Police were still investigating the crash.
