83-Year-Old In Wheelchair, Caretaker Hospitalized In Hit & Run

Police need the public's help in identifying this suspect vehicle in a hit-and-run crash that happened in Oakland County Thursday night.

INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP, MI — Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying the driver of a hit-and-run crash that hospitalized an 83-year-old man in a wheelchair and one of his caretakers.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department, employees from the Clarkston Specialty Healthcare Center on Clintonville Road in Independence Township were attempting to help push the 83-year-old man out of the roadway around 10:13 p.m. Thursday when a vehicle traveling northbound hit him and one of the workers.

The driver then fled the scene, police said.

The suspect vehicle is described as a black Chevrolet Monte Carlo with some sort of red writing on the front of the vehicle. Police believe the car will have front-end and passenger side damage, and possibly a faulty rear tail light.

Both the 83-year-old man and the employee were rushed to a local hospital; he remains in critical condition and the employee, a 29-year-old, is listed in stable condition.

The crash remains under investigation.
