Congressman's Brother Killed By Son In MI Shooting: Police
U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee said his family was "grieving and heartbroken."

VIENNA TOWNSHIP, MI — Timothy Kildee, who is U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee's brother, was shot and killed by his adult son Tuesday in Vienna Township, according to police.
The 57-year-old was shot by the 27-year-old between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. in the victim's home in the 9000 block of Neff Road, police said at a press conference streamed Tuesday afternoon on Facebook, adding the gunman fled in his father's vehicle, which he crashed, striking a pickup truck. The shooter was in custody but hospitalized with serious injuries, according to police.
U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee was in Washington at the time of the incident but was on his way to Michigan on Tuesday afternoon via commercial airline, according to Genesee County Sheriff Christopher Swanson, who said he had been in contact with the congressman.

“Our family is grieving and heartbroken. There are no words to describe the loss of a beloved brother and family member, especially in such a terrible tragedy," Kildee, a Democrat from Flint Township, said in a prepared statement. “I thank the community for honoring my family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
The events that led to the killing began shortly before 2:50 a.m. at a house in the 3500 block of Columbine Avenue in Burton, where a verbal confrontation in which a gun was presented occurred and was reported to police, according to Swanson.

Several hours later, a person in the basement of Timothy Kildee's Vienna Township home heard a yelling match in which the adult son asked for a wallet and keys and there was a single gunshot, Swanson said.
The son stole Timothy Kildee's vehicle and eight minutes later T-boned the pickup while speeding in Genesee Township, according to Swanson, who said the wallet was found on the son. The two people in the truck were doing well, Swanson said.
Charges against the son could include open murder, carjacking, armed robbery, using a firearm while committing a felony, carrying a concealed weapon and a vehicle infraction, according to County Prosecutor David Leyton.
