Girl, 8, Killed In MI Crash Involving Amish Buggy: Police
Police said an SUV crashed into the back of the buggy, killing the girl and the horse and critically injuring a boy.
VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI — An 8-year-old girl and a horse were killed in a Wednesday morning crash involving an Amish buggy, according to Michigan State Police.
The crash happened at 8 a.m. Wednesday on Country Road 215 near 60th Ave in Lawrence Township, which is roughly 30 miles west of Kalamazoo, according to police.
Police said a 31-year-old Mattawan woman was driving a Ford SUV north on the road when she crashed into the back of an Amish buggy carrying a 12-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl.

The children were taken to a nearby hospital where the girl died and the boy was listed in critical condition, according to police.
The horse also died in the crash, according to police.

The Mattawan woman was arrested and placed in the Van Buren County Jail on suspicion of operating under the influence of an unknown substance, according to police.
Neither she nor her two passengers were injured in the crash, according to police.
Police were still investigating the crash.
