'I’m Still In Shock': MI Woman Wins $1M On Scratch-Off Ticket

The woman said she bought several scratch-off tickets as Christmas gifts and the only one she kept for herself ended up a $1 million winner.

CLINTON COUNTY, MI — A Michigan woman who bought several scratch-off tickets as Christmas gifts for family members ended up winning $1 million on the one she bought for herself, according to Michigan Lottery officials.

The lucky 66-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought her winning $1 million Major Cashword ticket at Ox’s Smoked Meats, located at 113 West Main Street in Westphalia, according to lottery officials.

The woman told lottery officials she bought several lottery tickets to give to family members as Christmas gifts, and the Major Cashword ticket is the only ticket I purchased for myself.

"I scratched the ticket on Christmas and thought I won $1,000 because I didn’t count all the words right away," the woman told lottery officials. "I scanned it on my Lottery app and was in complete and total disbelief when $1 million came up on the screen!"

She said she showed her husband and kids the ticket and then immediately locked the ticket in the safe.

"I give Lottery tickets as gifts every year, and my dad has always said that one of these years someone is going to win big," the woman told lottery officials. "I can’t believe it was me! I’m still in shock."

She chose to receive her prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $634,000 rather than annuity payments for the full amount, according to lottery officials.

With her winnings, she plans to take a few trips and then save the remainder, according to lottery officials.
