Mackinac Island Cliffside Rescue: Man Had About 10 Seconds Left Before Letting Go, Officials said
Officials said the man fell partway down the cliff and possibly suffered a broken arm.

MACKINAC ISLAND, MI — A man was rescued after falling partway down a cliff on Mackinac Island over the weekend, officials said.
The incident happened at 1:57 p.m. Sunday on a cliff where climbing is prohibited on the island, officials said.
Officials said the man fell partway down the cliff and possibly suffered a broken arm.

While firefighters were on their way, officials told them the man was "slipping and couldn’t hold on much longer."
A group of firefighters went to the top of the cliff to prepare a technical line rescue, while another group set up a ladder at the base of the cliff, officials said.

Mackinac Island Firefighter Joshua Carley went up the ladder and safely brought the man down, officials said.
The man told firefighters he had about 10 seconds left before letting go.
Officials did not identify the man, but said he was in stable condition.
Officials noted this is the second rescue this year, even though hikers are not allowed to climb cliffs on the island.
