MI Boy, 14, Drowns In Lake Michigan: Sheriff
A 14-year-old boy drowned in Lake Michigan last weekend, officials said.
BLISS TOWNSHIP, MI — A 14-year-old Alanson boy drowned in Lake Michigan last weekend, officials said.
The incident happened at 5:41 p.m. Sunday at Sturgeon Bay Beach near Bliss Township, officials said.
Officials said two teenage boys were struggling to stay afloat in the water. A bystander rescued one of the teenagers, but the 14-year-old boy went underwater and did not resurface, officials said.

The Emmet County Dive Team responded to the scene and recovered his body in the area where he was last seen swimming, officials said.
Officials did not release the teen's name out of respect for the family's privacy.

"Our Dive team rescuers advised me there was a very strong northeast current that pulled them in that direction as they entered the water to begin their search efforts," said Sheriff Matt Leirstein. "This is just a reminder northern Lake Michigan and its currents are very dangerous. We urge everyone to exercise extreme caution when entering the water."
