GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP, MI — Officials confirmed Monday that a massive fire and shooting at a Michigan church has left five people dead, including the gunman, and eight others injured.

Officials said all victims have been accounted for, but they are still searching for a motive.

Investigators said they have talked to more than 100 people about the shooting, which happened Sunday morning at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located in 4200 block of McCandlish Road in Grand Blanc Township.

Officials said 40-year-old Thomas Jacob Sanford, from Burton, drove his pickup truck through the front doors of the church and started shooting with an assault rifle. They also believe he used gasoline to start the fire, which destroyed much of the church.

Officers arrived within minutes and fatally shot Sanford in the parking lot behind the church, officials said.

Investigators were still processing the scene and clearing out the church's burned remains. They are investigating the attack as an act of "targeted violence."

Anyone with information about the shooting was asked anyone with information to call 1-800-CALL-FBI or go to tips.fbi.gov.
