Here's How MI Drivers Can Get Reimbursed For Pothole Damage
Michiganders spent $5.9 billion on vehicle repairs caused by road damage in 2024, according to a study.
MICHIGAN — A Michigan group is going to give a handful of Michiganders up to $758 for vehicle repairs caused by potholes.
The Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association will select the first five winners from the "Pothole Payback" contest soon. The group will also pick five winners for each May and June.
To enter the contest, the driver must provide a photo and a description of the vehicle incident/damage that was caused by a pothole. They will also be asked to share their address, phone number and a receipt of vehicle repair cost or a rough estimate.

Drivers can enter the contest and submit their stories here, through June.
Only one submission is allowed per driver per month. The group also asks for permission to use the driver's story and their photos on social media and campaign materials.

The group said it came up with $758 because it’s the average cost of vehicle repairs due to poor road conditions, according to a 2024 TRIP report.
According to the study, Michiganders spend $5.9 billion on vehicle repairs caused by road damage. The report highlights Detroit ($1,148), Flint ($1,136), Saginaw-Bay City-Midland ($943), Lansing ($940) and Grand Rapids ($898) among others.
