MICHIGAN — Lake Charlevoix is among the 26 best swimming lakes in the nation, according to a Reader’s Digest list.
"Separated from Lake Michigan by a narrow spit of land, Lake Charlevoix is calmer, more temperate and less windy than its mighty next-door neighbor," Reader’s Digest wrote. "The charming small town of Charlevoix is a dreamy slice of Americana complete with a general store, quirky architecture and curving cycle paths."
Lake Charlevoix, which spans from Charlevoix to Boyne City, is the third-largest inland lake in Michigan. It has roughly 55 miles of shoreline and is well known for its clear water and sandy beaches. The lake is also popular for fishing, boating, kayaking, paddleboarding and hiking.
