MI Man Dies At Grateful Dead 60th Anniversary Concert: Report
Family members said he had a "deep love" for the Grateful Dead's music and followed the band across the country.
MICHIGAN — A 54-year-old Michigan man died during Dead and Company’s concert at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park last weekend, according to a San Francisco Chronicle report.
Fred Peter Cothard, 54, of Constantine, was dancing in the crowd while the band played on the third and final night of their 60th anniversary run, family members said in a GoFundMe.
His partner said in a Facebook post that they were dancing to the song "They Love Each Other" when Cothard suddenly collapsed. He died two hours later at a hospital, she added.

Cothard was a carpenter and owned a construction business, with the majority of his work serving the Michiana area, according to his obituary.
He also had a "deep love" for music and for the Grateful Dead, whose members formed Dead and Company in 2015, and followed the band across the country.
"There was almost nothing else he enjoyed more than traveling the country with family and friends from all over the world, to see the next show," his obituary said.
Family members organized a GoFundMe page to help bring his remains back to Michigan and cover his funeral expenses.
"Our dad, Fred, was an incredible father and friend to all," one of his children wrote on the page. "The one thing we know for sure about our dad is that his love for us was endless, but his love for the Grateful Dead, and the Grateful Dead community meant almost as much as his love for us."
