MI On Pace For Record Number Of Tornadoes In 2025, NWS Says
The majority of tornadoes that touch down in Michigan occur from May through August.
MICHIGAN — After three tornadoes touched down last week during a wave of severe storms, the state has now seen 25 tornadoes so far this year through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
It is the most tornadoes Michigan has seen since 2010 when 27 tornadoes touched down across the state, according to the weather service.
"Through mid-May, that's the fastest pace we've experienced," said Steven Freitag, a meteorologist with the agency based in White Lake Township.

Most of the tornadoes that have touched down in Michigan, including the three from last week, have been on the weaker side, an EF-2 or less, according to the weather service.
The majority of tornadoes that touch down in Michigan occur from May through August. Michigan has averaged 13 tornadoes per year since 2000, according to the Storm Prediction Center.
