Michigan Reports 3,827 New COVID-19 Cases Since Wednesday
Johns Hopkins University reports that there are about 420.9 million confirmed cases worldwide and 5.8 million deaths.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) reported Friday that a total of 2,045,840 Michiganders have tested positive for COVID-19 and 31,383 have died from the virus — an additional 3,827 cases and 112 deaths since Wednesday.

The new numbers combine Thursday’s and Friday’s recorded cases and deaths, with an average of 1,914 new confirmed cases per day. DHHS publishes COVID-19 data three times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The deaths announced include 61 deaths identified during a vital records review. DHHS conducts this review process two times per week.

DHHS reported Wednesday that an additional 295,393 Michiganders from Monday were identified as “probable” cases for COVID-19, as well as 2,599 probable deaths. The department began tracking probable cases on April 5, 2020. DHHS has not updated its website containing probable cases as of 5:30 p.m. Friday.
The virus has been detected in all of Michigan’s 83 counties. The state’s COVID-19 fatality rate as of Wednesday was 1.5%.
As of Wednesday, the state reported a total of 1,967 COVID-19 hospitalizations across Michigan hospitals, with 326 of those in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). There were 71 children hospitalized with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19. The state also had an average hospital bed occupancy of 78%. The state did not update its numbers as of 5:30 p.m. Friday.
The first two cases of COVID-19 were reported in the state on March 10, 2020. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer declared a state of emergency that day.
