Michigan Teen Bitten By Recluse Spider, Doctors Say

The 19-year-old said he's preparing for a pretty "nasty scar."

MICHIGAN — A Michigan teen has suffered what doctors say is a recluse spider bite.

The 19-year-old from Antrim County, Clayton Friend, said he noticed the bites during a bonfire while he was at his friend’s house, WPBN reported.

Friend told the outlet he then got a fever and spent the next few days feeling like he was freezing. That’s when he said he decided to go see a doctor.

"My blood tests came back a little funky, I went to the emergency room the next day and they were looking at it some more and the doctor said, ‘yeah, it's definitely a recluse bite,’" he told WPBN.

“I’ll have a pretty nasty scar,” he added.

Friend had reportedly been laying sod over the weekend and it came from a place where brown recluse spiders are more common. They are not common in Michigan, but they are known to be carried in travel cases and bags.

Last year, Michiganders found them in at least 10 counties, WDIV reported.
