Light snow showers will move into the metro Detroit region early Thursday morning as some areas wake up to single digit temperatures, according to the weather service.

Forecasters expect most areas will see between 1 and 2 inches of fresh snow by Thursday night, according to the weather service.

High temperatures will warm back into the 30s across the Detroit area heading into the weekend with a chance for a wintry mix on Saturday, according to the weather service.

After that, the coldest air of winter season will move into southeastern Michigan, according to the weather service.

Forecasters expect temperatures to plunge into the single digits with subzero wind chills Sunday night. Highs will remain in the single digits Monday through Wednesday with wind chills dropping to as low as -25 degrees, according to the weather service.

There is also a chance for light snow showers and flurries early next week, according to the weather service.

Friday: Cloudy; High 34, Low 30

Saturday: Wintry Mix; High 36, Low 13
