Murder-Suicide Suspected In MI Campers' Death: Report

The FBI continues to investigate the incident.

MICHIGAN — Officials believe murder-suicide is the cause of death for two campers on Isle Royale earlier this month, according to an MLive report.

Keweenaw County Medical Examiner Dr. Michael McAllister told the outlet the victims are a father and son, but he did not say how they died or who died first.

Officials are also withholding the victims' identities to protect their investigation.

The campers were found dead on June 8 at the South Lake Desor Campground, located within the Lake Superior park at Isle Royale National Park.

Two rangers hiked 11 miles overnight to investigate the scene at the remote campsite where they found the bodies, officials said.

The FBI continues to investigate the incident and has not released any further information.

Isle Royale National Park is a remote wilderness in Lake Superior off the Keweenaw Peninsula. The park is best known for backpacking, hiking, camping and other recreational activities. It can only be reached by ferry, boat or seaplane.
