National Furniture Retailer Closing Multiple MI Stores

Multiple Value City Furniture stores across Michigan are expected to close after the struggling retailer filed for bankruptcy last weekend.

Value City Furniture's parent company, American Signature, announced plans last Sunday to sell company assets and close stores across the nation.

"In the face of the ongoing macroeconomic headwinds that have impacted the entire home furnishing industry, the Company has carefully evaluated its options to assess the best path forward in the current operating environment," said Rudy Morando, Co-Chief Restructuring Officer for ASI. "Through that review, we determined that entering a court-supervised process will provide the best opportunity to maximize value.

The company first announced plans to close four Tennessee Value City Furniture locations. Since then, dozens of other stores have been slated for closure or host liquidation sales.

According to its website, Michigan stores include:

• Ann Arbor, 425 E. Eisenhower Pkwy, (Store closing)
• Clinton Township, 33801 S. Gratiot Ave., (Store closing)
• Dearborn, 5701 Mercury Drive, (Store closing)
• Lansing, 8748 W. Saginaw Hwy, (Total inventory blowout)
• New Baltimore, 50400 Gratiot Ave., (Store closing)
• Novi, 27775 Novi Road, (Store closing)
• Portage, 550 Ring Road, (Total inventory sale)

American Signature said it has already started closing sales and is offering "deep discounts" while merchandise lasts. The company said it will continue to fulfill customer orders and provide customer service during the filing process. They also said there will be a Black Friday sale.
