Over 60 Dogs Removed From MI Home With Poor Living Conditions: Sheriff
The homeowner could face animal abuse and animal torture charges, according to officials.
CALHOUN COUNTY, MI — Nearly 70 dogs were removed from a Michigan home Tuesday, according to officials.
Officers were called to a home in the 8000 block of 8½ Mile Road in Calhoun County’s Newton Township at 11:23 p.m. Tuesday on an animal abuse report, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office.
The homeowner, a 68-year-old woman, allowed officers to search the home, officials said.

While searching the single-story, three-bedroom home, officers found many dogs and cats living in poor living conditions, officials said.
Officials said there were significant amounts of animal waste and strong odor of urine throughout the home. Additionally, many of the dogs and cats were in poor health themselves, officials said.

Officers also found a dead dog in the backyard, officials said.
The woman voluntarily surrendered all animals, which included 68 dogs, officials said.
The animals were taken to the Calhoun County Animal Shelter for evaluation, medical treatment and care, officials said.
Officials contacted Adult Protective Services to help the homeowner.
Police were still investigating the incident and said the woman could be charged with animal abuse and animal torture once prosecutors review the case.
