Teen Killed, 1 Hurt In MI Crash On Telegraph Rd: Sheriff

Investigators believe driver inattention played a role in the crash.

LASALLE TOWNSHIP, MI — A 19-year-old woman was killed and a man was injured after a head-on crash Monday afternoon in Monroe County, according to the sheriff's office.

The crash happened at 5:28 p.m. Monday on South Telegraph Road, north of West Stein Road in LaSalle Township.

Officials said 19-year-old Abbigal Garbers, of Morenci, was driving a gray 2010 Toyota Corolla north on Telegraph Road. She then crossed the centerline near West Stein Road and smashed head-on into a gray 2015 Hyundai Sonata, officials said.

The Hyundai came to rest in the middle of the roadway facing west, while the Toyota stopped on the southbound shoulder facing east, officials said.

Garbers was taken to Toledo Hospital in Toledo, Ohio, where she died, officials said.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 35-year-old Temperance man, was taken to St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo and listed in serious condition, officials said.

Investigators said both drivers were wearing seatbelts and airbags deployed in both vehicles. They believe driver inattention played a role in the crash.
