Thunderstorms, Freezing Rain, Snow Possible Across Detroit Area

Highs can reach 60 degrees Wednesday before cooler air moves into the region overnight with a snowy start to Thursday, forecasters said.

SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN — Isolated thunderstorms, freezing rain and snow are all possible across southeastern Michigan on Wednesday and into Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Multiple waves of rain and non-severe thunderstorms will cross the area between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday when temperatures climb toward 60 degrees, according to the weather service.

The warmer temperatures are thanks to southerly winds, which could produce gusts up to 45 miles per hour through Wednesday and overnight, according to the weather service.

The rain will pick back up after midnight when northwest winds move into the region and push temperatures down into the 20s, according to the weather service.

Forecasters warned some untreated southeastern Michigan roadways can freeze during the overnight hours, according to the weather service.

At some point after 3 a.m. Thursday, forecasters expect the rain to changeover to snow, leading to slippery conditions during the morning hours, according to the weather service.

Forecasters expect anywhere from a dusting to a half of an inch of snow during the early morning hours Thursday, according to the weather service.

The snowy surfaces won't stick around for long as skies will clear out and temperatures will climb toward 40 degrees during the afternoon hours, according to the weather service.

There is another chance for a rain/snow mix Friday in mostly the southern zones across the region Friday afternoon, before a dry weekend with highs in the 40s, according to the weather service.

Next week will feel more like spring as highs hit the 50s and even the 60s across southeastern Michigan, according to the weather service.
