Preview: Berkley City Council Meeting

Retiring employees will be recognized, a new city clerk sworn in, budget amendments made tonight.

The Berkley City Council will say goodbye to two employees, swear in a new city clerk, handle budgetary issues during a busy session at 7 tonight at .

The council will begin by recognizing City Clerk Mary Hughes, who served in her official capacity for the last time during the June 6 meeting, and information technology coordinator Brenda Cole, both of whom are retiring. During the regular agenda, new City Clerk Cheryl Printz will be sworn in.

Several appointments also will be made during the meeting, including:

  • Shawn Irwin will be appointed to the Woodward Dream Cruise Ad Hoc Committee as a resident representative.
  • Noel Rendleman will be appointed to the Communications Advisory Committee with a term to expire in July 2014.
  • Larry Gallagher will be reappointed to the Downtown Development Authority as an at-large representative and Alan Semonian as a Twelve Mile representative, both with terms expiring in July 2015.

Two items related to the will be discussed:

  • A letter of agreement between the city and the Public Safety Officers Association to fill an officer position for 1 year with a contract position.
  • The purchase of 25 bullet-proof safety vests at a unit price of $695.00.

The latter will be subject to subject to the passage of 2010-2011 budget amendments, which are on the agenda as well.

The council also will authorize the annual Berkley Cruisefest and Annual Classic Car Parade on Aug. 19, which is the day before the Woodward Dream Cruise, and address a number of other administrative and policy issues.
