The clipper system will move into the area sometime Tuesday afternoon after 5 p.m. when temperatures fall into the 20s, the weather service said.

Forecasters expect 1 to 2 inches of fresh snow across the region.

The show showers will linger into Wednesday when another 1 to 2 inches is expected by the nighttime hours, the weather service said.

Wednesday's night lows will fall into the single digits with wind chills dropping below zero degrees at times, the weather service said.

The cold air will stick around through New Year's Day and into the weekend, the weather service said.
