A Comedic Play Examining Fact And Fiction Comes To Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, MI — The Birmingham Village Players will feature a comedic play that showcases a determined fact-checker going head-to-head with a famous author.
The play called, "The Lifespan of a Fact"was written by Jeremy Kareken, David Murrell and Gordon Farrell. It is based on an actual event between a real-life author and fact-checker that was written by John D’Agata and Jim Fingal.
"It’s all about interpretation," DirectorDale Feldpausch said. "At one point, D’Agata says ‘I'm not interested in accuracy, I'm interested in the truth,’ so it’s easy to see a parallel between this show and today’s ‘fake news.’ It will definitely get you laughing…and talking."

The conflict between the two characters begins over a deeply moving essay about a teenage boy's suicide. (While teen-aged suicide is not the topic of the play, it is discussed multiple times throughout the production.) Their disagreements ultimately examine what is fact and fiction, and does it really matter if the future of the magazine is on the line.
