Detroit Country Day School Holds Scholar-Athlete Award Dinner
Lisa Hallett, Executive Director and Co-Founder of wear blue: run to remember, served as the guest speaker for the evening

Detroit Country Day School (DCDS) recognized 34 students from the Class of 2019 for excellence in academics, athletics, character, and leadership during the annual Scholar-Athlete Award Dinner held at the Troy Marriott on November 1. DCDS Headmaster Glen Shilling made the announcement.
“Each year, we look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of our students who dedicate themselves not only to excellence in academic achievement, but also to competing at a high level on one or more of our school’s athletic teams,” said Shilling. “The Scholar-Athlete award is a prestigious honor given to a select number students and our entire community is proud of them and their hard work.”
As this year’s guest speaker, DCDS welcomed Lisa Hallett, Executive Director and Co-Founder of wear blue: run to remember, a national nonprofit that honors the service and sacrifice of the United States military. The organization creates a network for military members and their families, bridging the gap between military and civilian communities and creating a living memorial for our country’s fallen military members. Co-founder Lisa Hallett turned to the running community seeking support after losing her husband, CPT John Hallett in combat. Lisa and her team are committed to the support of military servicemembers and their families by using running as a healthy outlet for their grief.

The Scholar-Athlete Award Dinner is a DCDS tradition sponsored by the Blue & Gold Club, a parent volunteer organization that supports the athletic programs and physical education activities of DCDS students, and is dedicated to improving and enhancing student opportunities and facilities for these programs. The Scholar-Athlete Award was established in 1979 to bring public recognition to the scholar-athlete and those who exemplify the values of DCDS.
Each senior student who earned the Scholar-Athlete Award was nominated by a coach and was required to submit a resume highlighting academic and athletic honors, and a personal essay. The students also had to have earned at least two varsity letters in one or more sports and a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0. This year’s scholar-athletes were selected through a panel review of each candidate’s credentials and essay submission. The Scholar-Athlete Award recipients from the Class of 2019 include:
