Registration Now Open for Birmingham's Youth Soccer, Lacrosse and Little Leagues

Does your child want to play soccer, baseball, lacrosse or softball this spring? Here's what you need to know about registering for Birmingham's various youth sport leagues.

The snow may be flying these days, but spring is still in the air for those parents and kids looking forward to the spring sports season.

Registration is underway and ending soon for many of Birmingham's youth sports leagues. Is your child interested in spring baseball or lacrosse? Here's what you need to know:

Lacrosse

Birmingham Girls Lacrosse

The Birmingham Girls Lacrosse program is a feeder program for the unified girls lacrosse team at Groves and Seaholm. The program held an informational meeting in late January, however registration is still open.

Birmingham Bulldogs Boys Lacrosse

Just like the girls, the Birmingham Bulldogs Lacrosse team is the the feeder program for the lacrosse program at the high school level. The league is now offering open registration on a first come, first serve basis as well as pre-season skill development clinics. The boys league is open to all Birmingham Public Schools students in 3rd thorugh 8th grade.

Baseball

Franklin Baseball League

Registration is now open for players and umpires for the Franklin Youth Baseball League. The league provides various levels of play, from tee-ball through senior softball and pony-level baseball. Player registraton ends March 1, with boys tryouts scheduled for March 2. The makeup tryout will be held on March 5. Girls tryouts will be held on March 3. Opening day is April 20.

Birmingham Litte League

Entering its 66th year in 2013, the Birmingham Little League is currently offering open registration through March 1. The price is $150 per player, with a family maximum of $300. Player evaluations will be held on March 3 and March 10 at Derby Middle School, a new requirement for all boys and girls playing in the league's minor and major divisions. The league does not require evaluations for the tee-ball division. The league is also accepting applications for players five years old and older.

Beverly Hills Little League

Registration is now open for the Beverly Hills Little League, with early registration ending Saturday. Registration costs range from $95 for boys youth, t-ball and minors girls softball, to $115 for minors and majors boys baseball. Practice begins in March and opening day is April 20.

Softball

Birmingham Girls Softball

Registration is now open for girls softball players in grades 1-8. Applications are due Feb. 22 and evaluations begin March 16 and March 23. The league is also looking for coaches.

Soccer

Birmingham Bloomfield Soccer Club

Registration for the Birmingham Bloomfield Soccer Club (BBSC) is available through March 1. There are two programs being offered this spring: a tot program for 3- and 4-year-olds, and a regular soccer programs for 5-year-olds through 8th grade.

Birmingham Area Youth Soccer League

Registration is now open for the Birmingham Area Youth Soccer League (BAYSL), a community-based recreational youth league for players in pre-kindergarten through 6th grade. The league also offers a parent and tot program for those 18 months to 3 years old, focusing on pre-soccer skills. All practices and games are held at the Our Shepherd Lutheran School on Lincoln, with the season starting April 20 and ending June 15.
