Renovations Add New Shine To Baldwin Public Library
Baldwin Public Library $2.1 million renovations focused on the adult services section. Additional renovations could be in the works.

BIRMINGHAM, MI — The first phase of renovations to Birmingham’s Baldwin Public Library is complete. A grand opening celebration of the renovated adult services section will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. The library is located at 300 W. Merrill Street.
The renovation, which came in under its $2.1 million budget, accentuates the library’s curved 1980s addition by highlighting its architectural design. A goal was to improve the flow of the library and encourage collaboration. The next portion of renovations, which would expand the youth room, could start as soon as 2019.
“The book stacks in adult services were rearranged so they run perpendicular to the curve of the addition. Three new study rooms were added, complete with large monitors to allow for collaboration. Wooden slats now hang from the ceiling to provide a friendly visual cue. A "Main Street" pathway of green and grey floor tiles helps navigate patrons around the section.
Other new features include an “idea lab” that will have a 3-D printer, laser engraver and robotics bench for the public to enjoy. In addition, the Claudia Ireland reading room was added in the Grand Hall. Ireland was a longtime president of the Friends of the Library.”
