A Glimpse at the Bloomfield Township Police Department's 2012 Annual Report
The Bloomfield Township Board of Trustees recently accepted the department's annual report.

The Bloomfield Township Police Department's 2012 annual report is full of stats and useful information about the department and its performance during the calendar year. Here are five interesting facts in the report, which is available on the township's website.
- The department personnel strength remained at 67 sworn officers for the third straight year, despite a slight increase in population.
- The ratio of officers per township resident (estimated at 41,600 by the Southest Michigan Council of Governments) is now one officer per 620 people, and one per 266 residences.
- The department received 19,313 complaints last year, which is a slight increase from 2011 (18,849) but still fewer than 2008, 2009, and 2010. The total number of dispatches went up 2.4 percent last year.
- Detectives closed 727 of the 1,058 cases (roughly 69 percent) assigned during the year. A closed case is defined as a complaint where no more investigation can or needs to be done.
- Serious crimes that increased from 2011 included fraud-identity theft (10 more incidents, 5 percent), drug violations (14 more incidents, 13 percent) and burglaries (14 more incidents, 16 percent).
