Baldwin Marks Library Card Sign-Up Month With Two Events

Editor's Note: Last November, Bloomfield Hills residents narrowly passed a a 0.39-mill levy to fund a three-year contract with the Baldwin Public Library, giving them a library to call their own after several years and two previous millage attempts.

As students head back to school this September, the encourages parents to make sure their children and teens sign up for the most important school supply of all — a library card. 

September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country remind parents and caregivers that a library card is the smartest card your can own. 

When it comes to achieving academic success, a library card provides students with access to a world of both print and electronic resources. Students can access free databases, online homework help and attend programs, activities and clubs that provide an added value to the educational experience. Libraries and librarians are on the front lines of engaging these students, making a library card an essential tool for inspiring a passion for learning.

Baldwin is hosting two events on Saturday, Sept. 8 to mark the occasion:

• 10:30 a.m. at the Baldwin Public Library: A First Grade First Card program for children entering first grade. Get a card and receive a gift from the Friends of the Library!
• Noon-3 p.m. at the Public Safety Open House at the , library staff will be there to register you!
