Burglary at Townsend Cleaners; Stolen Vehicle Recovered in Bloomfield Township

The Bloomfield Township Police Department provided the following information. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.


Officers with the Bloomfield Township Police Department arrested a man who jumped from a vehicle they were trying to stop for a traffic violation last week. 
Officers on patrol in the area of Franklin Road and Hulet Drive tried to stop the vehicle for improper lane use at about 1:15 a.m. on Aug. 31, reports said. As the vehicle slowed, the driver jumped out and started to run away. 

The officers pursued him and eventually arrested him without incident. They identified the man as Hakeem Simpson, 22, and determined the vehicle was reported stolen in Pontiac, reports said. 

Simpson told investigators he paid the vehicle’s owner to use it, but after a few of days the owner demanded more money or threatened to report it stolen. 

Authorities charged Simpson with driving on a suspended license and resisting arrest. He posted $500 bond was released pending an upcoming court hearing. 

Cleaners cleaned out

Detectives with the Bloomfield Township Police Department are investigating a burglary at Townsend Cleaners that was reported on Sept. 3.

Officers responded to an alarm at the business, located at 2431 W. Maple Rd., shortly before 2 a.m. and discovered the front glass door shattered, reports said. The intruder or intruders were gone, and took an undisclosed amount of cash. 

No suspect information was available.
