Costco Switches to Pepsi. Did Bloomfield Notice?

The Coke vs. Pepsi battle recently spilled into Bloomfield Township when Costco switched soft drink companies at its food court.

The $1.50 large hot dog and drink combo at Costco — considered by many among the best meal deals in Bloomfield Township — has a new look and taste.

The pop fountain at the warehouse giant recently converted from Coca-Cola products to Pepsi, conforming with a new nationwide initiative at all of the store's food courts. The company announced the switch in April on Bevnet.com and slowly swapping out fountain drinks at 400 locations across the United States as beverage contracts expired.

Local employees said they haven't noticed much of a change in demand for the hot dog combo since the switch. Some customers definitely have.

"Yes, and I don't like it," wrote reader Kathy Erwin August in response to a question about whether the change was noticed on the Bloomfield-Bloomfield Hills Patch Facebook page

What hasn't — and won't — change, company officials said, is the price, which remains the same since 1985.
