This is what Major League Baseball games are all about for young fans: The chance to snag a foul ball.

But what happened after the Detroit Tigers’ designated hitter, Victor Martinez, hit a foul in Saturday’s game against the Minnesota Twins, went far beyond the ordinary.

Ashley Bisby, 10, grabbed it and then promptly gave it away to Ryan Rundle,11, who was standing a few seats away. The look on his face says everything you need to know about the moment, but a video on the Detroit Tigers website adds some context.

“My brother already got a ball, and I don’t usually play baseball, and so I didn’t really need the ball,” Ashley explained. “ … He seemed like he really kind of wanted one.”

Ryan thought catching a foul ball was out of his reach.

“I see balls fly past,” he said, “and I don’t think I’m ever going to get one …”
