Heavy Storms Knock Out Power in Bloomfield Township

Heavy rain coupled with strong winds left many residents in the dark.

Roughly 400 Bloomfield-area residents lost power during the severe thunderstorms that swept through Metro Detroit Friday evening. 

The majority of outages occurred in the area near Franklin and Lone Pine roads around the Wabeek Golf Course at about 6:15 p.m., according to the DTE outage map. No restoration was available as of 11:45 p.m. Nearly 2,000 residents in Birmingham and more in Troy also lost power during the storm. In all DTE estimates more than 105,000 customers lost power throughout the evening.

Earlier Friday, the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Oakland County until 10 p.m. It issued a second warning through 12:45 a.m. Saturday as another system worked its way across southeast Michigan.

Saturday's forecast calls for scattered thunderstorms before 8 a.m., and then a chance of ran followed by partly sunny skies, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures will reach about 86 degrees.
