Hungry Squirrels Disrupt Bloomfield Hills Schools Phones and Internet

Repairs are under way, but standard communications may be difficult Friday.

Reaching staff at buildings throughout the Bloomfield Hills Schools will be a bit more difficult Friday thanks to local furry 'friends.'

The district anticipates phones and Internet service will be down most, if not all, of the day as repairs are made to fiber-optic cables that were apparently chewed up by neighborhood squirrels. According to an alert on the district's website, the squirrels ravaged some of the district fiber-optic cable this week, shutting down Internet access at some buildings entirely.

Parents or members of the community that try to reach the district by phone will automatically be sent to the voicemail system, and are encouraged to leave a message. As for e-mail, the lack of Internet service will greatly restrict access and prevent internal communications systems. District officials asked for patience while the repairs are under way.
