Oakland Hills Chairman Says He's 'Fore' Bringing U.S. Open Back to Michigan

If local course chairmen get their wish, the championship could return to Bloomfield Hills in the future.

After a two-decade reprieve, pro golfers could one day return to Bloomfield Hills to tee off in the country's premier championship.

Although representatives from the United States Golf Association locked down in July 2015 the courses expected to host the U.S. Open through 2024, none have yet been solidified for 2025 and beyond. Local officials told The Detroit News on Thursday that they'd like Michigan to rejoin the competition's rotation.

The article quotes Lee Juett, general chairman for Oakland Hills Country Club, in confirming an application to bring the Open back to Bloomfield Hills. The club has hosted the event six times.

“We have extended an invitation to host another championship,” Juett said, in the story. “It has not proceeded beyond that.”

The grounds at Oakland Hills are currently being meticulously manicured in advance of this summer's U.S. Amateur — the first USGA event to come to its greens since 2002.
