OAKLAND COUNTY, MI (December 11, 2024) – On Tuesday December 10, 2024, Oakland Community Health Network (OCHN) partnered with Forgotten Harvest and The Alliance of Coalitions for Healthy Communities to host a Veteran and Military Family Drive Through Resource and Food Distribution Event.
This event was the first of its kind for OCHN and aimed to ensure Veterans, Military Families, and the community at large had knowledge of behavioral health resources, food supplies, and Naloxone education prior to the Holiday season.
The distribution offered families/individuals the opportunity to drive up to receive free overdose prevention training, food staples such as potatoes, juice, bread, fruit, etc. and behavioral health resources. Our respective agencies saw over 250 households, encompassing over 675 individuals. More than 30 volunteers from local agencies, community members, and Veterans themselves gathered to support this effort. A total of 38 individuals took advantage of the overdose prevention training and 42 Narcan kits were distributed by The Alliance of Coalitions for Healthy Communities. The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) also had a representative onsite to assist Veterans with filing claims.
