Roeper School Alum Wins $25K Scholarship

Newberry Will Spend A Semester In England

Serena Newberry has received the Luard Morse Scholarship, a $25,000 award that covers the cost of a semester at an English university. Newberry, 18, a sophomore at Xavier University of Louisiana, a graduate of Bloomfield Township’s Roeper School, received the scholarship from the the English-Speaking Union of the United States, according to the Oakland Press.

Newberry will attend Goldsmith University of London for the spring semester in 2018. Fluent in Chinese, Newberry also started a nonprofit to help economically disadvantaged children when she was 8. Her Developing KIDS program continues to provide assistance to children ages 5-18, as well as supportive sessions for parents and families. All Developing KIDS events offer meals or snacks.
